Caftan Yara

Butter yellow, rose satin, nothing else.

Caftan Yara is a full-length piece cut in one, on a pale butter-yellow ground covered with embroidered medallions — rosettes and diamonds in rose, powder blue, lilac and gold, each ringed with crystals set by hand. Rose satin runs through the whole piece: it binds the V neckline, edges the cuffs, and forms the braided trim and covered buttons down the front.

The cut is wide and easy, the way an abaya is: it falls straight from the shoulder, and the rose satin belt that comes with it is what draws the waist. Leave the belt off for a fuller, more fluid line. Deep slits at each side let the caftan move as you walk, and the whole piece is fully lined, so the embroidery never touches the skin.
